The most popular high-strength hard aluminum alloy, 2A12, is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the Al-Cu-Mg series and is a member of the 2000 series. While the 2A12 aluminum alloy has strong spot weldability and can be reinforced through heat treatment, it tends to develop intergranular cracks when gas welding and argon arc welding are employed. 2A12 aluminum alloy is more formable in the hot state, the annealed state, and the new quenched state. Although heat treatment has a remarkable strengthening effect, there are stringent restrictions on the process.
2A12 belongs to the extruded tube, which reaches the final size through the hot extrusion process. The seamless aluminum tube, as opposed to the structural tube, is an aluminum tube with no weld seam. 2A12 seamless aluminum tubes can be produced by two methods: one is to push the hollow aluminum billet through the mold and mandrel press with great force at high temperature, and the other is to push the solid billet through the piercer, and then the mandrel pierces and extrudes the billet in the second forward stroke. Regardless of the method used, the tube will have no welds or seams, making it ideal for anodizing and other finishing procedures.

Heat Treatment Specifications of 2A12 Seamless Aluminum Tube
- Homogenization Annealing: furnace cooling after heating at 480-495 °C for 12–14 hours.
- Complete Annealing: heat the furnace to 390-430 °C, hold it for 30-120 minutes, and then cool it to 300 °C using air cooling.
- Rapid Annealing: heat to 350-370 °C, hold for 30-120 minutes, and then cool with air.
- For natural aging, use water cooling at 495-505 °C, air cooling for 6-12 hours, and room temperature for 96 hours.
